Sacred Heart: Are our hearts burning within us?

"Were not our hearts burning [within us] while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to us?" (Lk 24:32)

The Faith Formation committee at Sacred Heart Parish in Sauk Rapids, MN, invites you to join us in reading Our Hearts were Burning Within Us, A Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States by the US Catholic Bishops.

As a committee we are reading the text together, but this is a larger conversation! As parishioners at Sacred Heart your voice needs to join with ours as we discuss this text and use it to frame our parish goal of further developing a vibrant intergenerational faith formation program.

We ask you to read along through the links in this blog. More importantly, we ask you to talk about what you've read. Talk to your family. Talk to your neighbors. Talk to us.

One way for you to begin the discussion is to post your comments here. Thank you for joining us in this journey!

  1. This document is easy to read, helpful and inspiring! It has practical applications and a great plan to engage adults in respectful dialogue and discussion about faith, life, God and community. I have read it many times and used it often. I encourage you to ask to be in a group. Thank you.

  3. The more I learn about my Catholic Faith and what it means to be a mature Disciple of Christ, the closer I feel toward God and my faith community. This is a great opportunity to encounter God and the Church in a deeper way. Blessings Dcn Joe Kresky

  4. Parents are the primary educators of their children (as stated in the document). This carries huge responsibility and huge opportunity. We don't have to do this alone. The faith community wants to be supportive of our work as parents and we don't have to be fearful of asking for help.

  5. I am struck by the words of ~8~ on page 2, "...we will join people in their daily concerns and WALK SIDE BY SIDE with them on the pathway of life. We will ask them questions and LISTEN ATTENTIVELY as they speak of their JOYS, HOPES, GRIEFS AND ANXIETIES."

This is an awesome and powerful journey of a mature faith walk. It is a gift to be a part of it.
    Peace +

  6. Page 9 #26 = "We see in this society a widespread spiritual hunger-a quest for meaning and for a deeply personal experience of God and of community."
I believe this to be so true. People want to be in community. God made us to be in community. People are seeking healing and compassion and love.

    Are we providing this?
